What the installer does
Windows
- Delivered as a Windows Installer package built with WiX (.msi) for x64, x86, and ARM64.
- Installs for all users on the PC, which normally requires administrator rights.
- The installer asks Windows for administrator rights itself.
- No custom silent switch is declared; winget falls back to its default for this installer type (
/quiet /norestart). - Registers the
http://,https://,mailto://,mms://,tel://, andwebcal://link protocol. - Associates with the file types
.htm,.html,.pdf,.shtml,.svg,.webp,.xht, and.xhtml. - Upgrades install over the existing version.
macOS
- Delivered as a disk image (.dmg) for Apple silicon and Intel.
- Installs the app
Google Chrome.appinto the Applications folder. - Requires macOS 13 or later.
- The app updates itself, so it may be newer than the version Homebrew lists.
- A full “zap” removal also deletes up to 26 support, cache and preference locations in your home folder.
- The cask does not pin a checksum for this download (an unversioned URL), so the file can change without notice.
